The tallest residential building in Europe

When we mention the Intempo building, we are of course referring to Europe’s tallest skyscraper.

This residential building comprises a total height of 198 metres distributed across 47 floors. Inside are 256 unique apartments and a huge variety of common areas equipped with all manner of shared installations and services fit for a luxury resort.

The two towers are connected by a series of walkways that create a diamond-like shape at the highest part of the building.

This distinctive building is now synonymous with Benidorm. Anyone who visits this coastal city cannot help gaze at it and admire its unusual design.

When night fell, however, the lack of lighting meant the building was not taking its rightful place in the nightscape. The owners needed a quality lighting solution tailored to the unique features of the building. That is why they looked to a reliable national manufacturing company capable of delivering a quick response: Secom Iluminación.

Lighting a skyscraper: a technical challenge

The most defining feature of this building is its colossal height. It also constitutes the most challenging aspect of the lighting project. As the projection distance of the light beam increases, the light intensity gradually drops off.

Another important factor in the lighting project is the position of the luminaires. The farther they were from the base of the building, the higher the light beam would reach. The lower portion of the building includes various shared installations and services that meant the luminaires could not be installed freely at any point on the level; under no circumstances should the functionality of these zones be interfered with.

installation space, they had to be placed on the ground and therefore withstand the elements.

An optimal solution for a distinctive project

Secom Iluminación accepted this lighting challenge with the utmost confidence. After all, we have one of the best floodlight ranges on the LED lighting market.

We opted for the Innvictum Led luminaire with its compact design and high lighting output, making it suitable for reduced spaces with no adverse effects on its robustness and durability. The fixture has a high hermetic rating and is highly resistant to metallic shocks. The luminaires are also treated to withstand marine environments and protect the fixture from oxidation and corrosion caused by proximity to the sea.

In terms of the electrical and lighting features, we selected a power rating of 1500W to ensure the light would reach the upper portion of the building almost 200 metres above ground level. A 15-degree aperture would enable the light beam to be concentrated to minimise lighting dispersal caused by attempting to reach such a distant surface.

The versatility of the moveable mounting for this floodlight allows the light to be directed towards the desired area – in this case, the highest part of the skyscraper.

This luminaire is of such high quality that only one floodlight was required for each face of the building.

A result worthy of the Intempo skyscraper

Following the installation of this lighting solution, we are pleased to confirm that the tallest skyscraper in Europe can now be admired in all its splendour 24/7 thanks to the joint efforts of the technical team at Secom Iluminación and a team of installation and project management professionals.
