The Mercedes brand is universally associated with quality and reliability. By championing innovation, technology and elegant design, Mercedes vehicles have become one of Spain’s best-selling premium cars.
The design, aesthetics and décor of the showrooms where these high-end vehicles are sold need to match the quality of the brand itself.
Illumination plays a key role and has a direct impact on how vehicles are perceived by potential owners and on the overall buying experience. Secom Iluminación has a great deal of experience in shedding light upon car dealerships owned by Mercedes Benz and other well-known brands.
A technical and practical customised solution
Delivering the perfect illumination solution for Mercedes Benz dealerships entailed in-depth studies of the premises to calculate precisely the right number of luminaires, their power outputs and their positions. We needed to comply with legal stipulations while delivering an optimum and comprehensive solution.
In the first instance, this meant studying plans of the premises to get a good understanding of their layout, taking careful note of ceiling heights, selecting the right kind of light fixtures and accounting for the configuration of each showroom. Each project had to be customised to account for differences in ceiling heights, for example. There were also projects with a combination of indoor and outdoor lighting.
Once all the pertinent information had been gathered, we moved on to dividing up the different zones and working on them individually. Each has a specific role to play and, consequently, the lighting requirements vary greatly.
Once the groundwork had been done, we moved on to selecting the right luminaire for each area. Depending on the type of ceiling and the ceiling height, this could be recessed, surface or suspended lights.
The most appropriate lights for outside showrooms were spotlights fitted onto adjustable brackets or, when there were specific features such as greenery and foliage that needed to be accentuated, recessed lights were our allies.
We used a 4,000K colour temperature in the Mercedes Benz dealerships because anything warmer would make the ambience less appealing and damage the brand image.
Cold colour temperatures, on the other hand, would be unpleasant for customers and affect the buying experience.
We also used neutral colour temperatures to maximise the chromatic reproduction index as much as possible and make the vehicles stand out and look their best.
High-end illumination for a high-end brand
Only the very best quality, made-in-Spain luminaires were right for the Mercedes dealerships in Spain.
Secom Iluminación confidently rose to the challenge with its range of luminaires that were a perfect match for the top-quality, classy Mercedes showrooms.
One of the greatest challenges we faced was selecting suitable lights for a showroom with 7-metre-high ceilings. Downlights or panels would not have sufficient power to light up a space with these characteristics. Intensive optics, meanwhile, would significantly decrease light uniformity. In the end, we installed Konak LED lights because they work with a wide range of power outputs and could illuminate the entire area uniformly while complying with legal stipulations.
Para las zonas en las que no se podían emplear luminarias de empotrar, se optó por instalar downlights de superficie, como es el caso de las luminarias Dala Led.
Surface downlights, such as Dala LED luminaires, were installed where recessed lighting was not an option.
Most of the premises, however, did have suspended ceilings into which recessed lighting could be installed and we used Aircom Supra Plus, Loop Supra, Lobel and Eslim UGR<19 lights. In addition to being top-of-the-range products, these luminaires come with a number of add-on devices and sensors that can significantly increase user options.
The Mercedes dealerships, for example, have a series of beam sensors that can adjust the amount of light from luminaires to match the amount of natural light pouring into the premises through windows. Not only does this help to maximise energy savings, it also extends the working life of luminaires, brings down maintenance costs and enhances investment amortisation.
We chose the Protek and Larnik luminaires to light up façades and remarkable architectural features.
Kupik and FloPro were the luminaires of choice for landscaped areas.
These luminaires are exposed to the elements all year round but, since they are very watertight and shock-resistant, they are perfect for illuminating façades, billboards and green spaces.
