Crown Food is a world leader in the manufacture of food cans and packaging. Unsurprisingly, this huge company has branches in almost every continent and the fact that it has several manufacturing facilities in various locations across Spain makes its presence in the country particularly noteworthy.

This article focusses specifically on its manufacturing facility in Murcia, south-east Spain. It addresses the ins and outs of how the lighting project was designed and the solutions we came up with for illuminating areas inside and outside the facility’s industrial warehouses and along transit areas.

Crown Food in the Region of Murcia (Spain)

Crown Food is a world leader in the manufacture of food cans and packaging. Unsurprisingly, this huge company has branches in almost every continent and the fact that it has several manufacturing facilities in various locations across Spain makes its presence in the country particularly noteworthy.

This article focusses specifically on its manufacturing facility in Murcia, south-east Spain. It addresses the ins and outs of how the lighting project was designed and the solutions we came up with for illuminating areas inside and outside the facility’s industrial warehouses and along transit areas.

Versatility and quality: customised solutions each and every time

Crown Food chose to contract the services of Secom Iluminación, an experienced national manufacturer with extensive knowledge of the industry.

The project entailed replacing the facilities’ entire illumination system, from indoor lights to those at access points. A number of independent studies, including in-depth analyses of all areas, were performed.

Let us begin by taking a look at the warehouse interior where there was a shelved storage area stacked with manufacturing materials and components. Linear lighting systems were installed at the very top of the building in order to create a visually-pleasing aesthetic that delivered consistent and uniform illumination. The Aliket Basic was the luminaire of choice. The optic on this luminaire meant it was possible to light the entire transit area and the products on the shelves without generating any glare and without lights inconveniencing workers operating in and around that area.

The range of luminaires is so versatile that they could be linked together and installed as a continuous line along all corridors and transit areas.

The project also included several situations that posed particular challenges in terms of installation, dimensions and regulations.

The packaging company has a number of warehouses with ceilings that are at least 9 metres high and trusses where luminaires needed to be fitted. Bringing sufficient light to the required areas meant using floodlights with an adjustable bracket, such as the Protek Q2 led and Esdium Pro. These luminaires can be installed on trusses and even grouped together. Since they can be positioned at different angles, they can be used to light up large areas from a significant height. This solution meant that each area could be lit as an independent unit. Some luminaires were fitted to focus on the area directly below them while others were designed to illuminate the surrounding areas.

The Protek Q2 and Esdium luminaires provided solutions for this challenge. With these lights, beams could be adjusted and oriented towards required areas. In other factory areas with lower and more symmetrical industrial warehouses, suspended illumination solutions were used.crown-food

Konak Led suspended lights with an extensive optic were installed at a height of 7 metres. They ensured that illumination was uniform across the entire area and that lighting levels could be optimised as needed and in accordance with existing regulations.

In tunnels and covered loading bays, the most appropriate solution consisted of LED floodlights installed on adjustable brackets so that beams of lights could be moved as needed. The Protek Q2 LED and Esdium luminaires were ideal for these areas. They are incredibly energy efficient and have a series of optics that can expand or contract beams of light to suit each circumstance.

Last of all, we addressed the perimeter pathways and roads.

Ecodut K2 luminaires were installed unilaterally along transit areas. These luminaires have asymmetric optics and beams of light could be directed to cover the entire width of the route. Using the same luminaire along the entire area meant that we were able to provide consistent design and colour temperature.

A bright solution that was replicated across Spain

The solution delivered by Secom Iluminación satisfied the client’s needs in terms of project design and results following installation. Consequently, we were commissioned to manage lighting projects for all Crown Food facilities in Spain. Once again, the spotlight was clearly on the quality and dedication of this leading Spanish lighting company.
